ExtraCurriculars:
1.Editor-in-Chief of my school publications magazine for 2 years (and have had other editor positions for the other two years). this is my favorite extra-curricular and I plan on placing emphasis on this in the application.
2. Honor Societies: National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Math Honor Society(Events Coordinator), Spanish Honor Society.
3. Volunteer Work: I have over 400 hours in the hospital, library, red cross, and homeless shelter. Also I am a memeber of an executive teen board in the library.
4. Other Clubs: Mock Trial(juror), culture club (secretary), key club, yearbook, writing and literature workshop(president),amnesty, habitat for humanity, brazilian exchange.
5. part of a youth leadership forum in my city(not one of those national leadership forum stuff. this works with respect to my city only and consists of only 8 kids)
6.viola for 8 years.
7. I worked this summer as an intern in a local newspaper. last 2 summers I worked for my mom's company as a receptionist/secretary.
Awards: National Merit Commended, AP Scholar, Honor Roll all 4 years, ect.
I am pretty sure that I can write stellar essays and get really good recommendations from counselor and teachers(expecting a great one from my english teacher because I really stood out). Also, I think I will do well in the interviews.

What do you guys think?????????????????????

I think you have a shot; you are in the lower middle of the applicant pool and you should do all you can to distinguish yourself on your essay, and make sure to get stellar grades this fall. If you think you can significantly imporve your SAT's, you should certainly retake them.

thanks redcrimblue. unfortunately i dont think i am going to take the SATs. i guess all i can do is write good essays and keep my grades high. plus, cornell seems to really like my school because every year atleast 15 people are accepted (10 of which choose to go).

Then probably the best thing to do is to compare your test scores/gpa with admits from your school. Your school can certainly do this and it will give you a better picture of your chances. Sometimes a scatttergram can put this into particularly good focus. Best wishes!

thanks. my school has a website with students' acceptance histories, and has a program that compares you to them. my chances based on the graph aren't bad (meaning i'm better than some who got in), but they arent great either (meanin many of those kids are better than me). i guess only time will tell.

hmm i would improve on math this year....seems to be a sorta downward trend from what ive seen in ur case
if u pull it up to an A or A- itll look nice on ur transcript

yeah i'm trying bobow. i'm in bc calc this year and so far i've been working really hard and pulling off an A.
