Hi, im a female freshman in the US.
with this resume, what do I need to improve to get into usafa? what are my chances as of now?

Keep up the great work, the Academy admissions uses the extracurriculars, sports, etc. following your freshman year, so 10th and on is what matters most from what I can tell, a 90 unweighted is good, but if you work on that, get a high ACT you should be fine, no guarantees, good luck! :)

yeah i need to get the 90 up a little. do you know if they look more at weighted or unweighted grades? or how much they look into freshman year? i kinda had a rough start to hs

Unweighted, because many schools weight PE and Art classes, not certain on their method of how they register it, such as I have a 94.5 overall which could translate to 4.0 or each individual grade is a 4.0, 3.7 etc… They will take your gpa and such in account, but not EC’s I’m pretty sure the thing I read said, kinda levels the playing field a lil I suppose…keep up great work!

thank you. are you applying, or already there?

Applying, attending the summer seminar thus summer, nomination is necessarily already obtained  so going into Junior year!

Applying, attending the summer seminar thus summer, nomination is necessarily already obtained  so going into Senior year!

good luck! youll have to tell me how it is!

FWIW,

They have their own weight scoring system, and will re-weight you to their system. It is not just about the gpa. It is about the rigor or the course load, the school profile, plus the SAT/ACT, rank and the gpa to give you a PAR score. PAR = Prior Academic Record. It accounts for 60% of the WCS. WCS = Whole Candidate Score.

You can have a 4.0 uwgpa, but since you did not take 1 weighted class, your gpa could slide down according to the AFA. You could have a 3.6 uwgpa, but take 9 AP’s and all honors and it could slide up.

The profile of the school also matters. It is submitted by the GC. In it they inform the AFA of % from your school that go Ivy, Private, Public 4 yr, Community, Tech and nothing. If you rank top 20% in the class, yet 50% go Ivy, it looks good. If you rank top 20% an 0 go Ivy, 10% go 4 yr, it isn’t going to look good.

That profile also includes; Amount of AP/IB courses offered, compared to the amount you toolk (see rigor)

As far as noms, unless you have a true “IN” with an MOC or are a child eligible for Presidential, don’t bank on the nom until their board meets, which is usually in October.

Attending SLS helps alot. So you should def. go if you can.

To get an appointment, the key is to understand highest WCS wins the nom.

Presidential noms are unlimited, they could give 500, but only 100 can be charged. MOCs can have up to 10 on any given slate, but only 1 on that slate can be charged to the MOC.

How do you get it? Highest WCS.

WCS includes:
PAR (60%)
ECS/CFA (20%)
RECS (20%)

Take the PSAT as a sophomore, do it again as a jr. They offer it in the fall (Oct). Than take the SAT AND ACT over and over again.

The AFA will superscore.

You take the PSAT because if you score high enough you get to compete for the NMF. That will count for nationally recognized awards.

The goal should be to hit as close to 1400 out of 1600 to feel confident, not safe, confident. I say that because some states are incredibly competitive and their scores will be much higher…see PAR and WCS!

aviation is correct, they want to see improvement, and honestly a 90 is good for a freshman when you are taking honors.

Aviation, I don’t know where you attend school, but I have never heard of PE being weighted, and my kids were AFAD children, who attended a total of 12 different school districts between the 3 of them. The only art class that was weighted in the 4 different hs’s was AP Art.
