Chances to D.C. Schools

GPA - 3.5 unweighted out of a 4 point scale.

So far, I have taken all the highest classes offered up to my junior year with the exception of one AP class.

To count, I believe I have 25+ Honors classes and two AP classes.

As a senior, I will be taking all Honors or AP Classes (3 APS).

My important EC are as follows:
Education in Africa - President, three years. (raise money to supply them w/ books, etc)
Volunteer at Soup Kitchen - two years
Coaching Elementary School Soccer - four years
Volunteer at Local church - four years.
Clarinet - four years.
Varsity Sport - four years
I have many more, but those are the most important and consistent EC's.

Test Scores:
SAT I: 520 CR, 630 Math, 620 Writing (planning to retake and bring up to 2000)
SAT II: Biology - 580 (going to retake, shooting for 700+)
Chemistry - 620
Math II - planning to take in a few months, shooting for 700+

Generally speaking, what would you guys think about my chances of acceptance to Georgetown University, George Washington University and American University?

Your scores/grades are on the low side for Georgetown and GW, I think American is a match. Try taking the ACT, maybe you will do better then on the SAT.

Thanks ArtsyGirl13. I was thinking Georgetown is basically out of reach, but I think if I pull through my senior year and up my scores and GPA, I may have an okay shot at GW too. …or is this wishful thinking?

It is sort of wishful thinking, you don’t have enough time to drastically change your GPA (I personally would not apply there with less then a 3.8 unweighted), though continue your goal of upping your scores.

Ok. What do you think about Lehigh University, Boston University and Boston College(impossible?)? I live in New Jersey, but I liked the schools in the Boston Area

oh, I am also in the National Honor Society and have been on the Honor Roll every year. Chances, Advice… anything, are welcome!

bumpbumpbump

Those scores need to go way up for Georgetown and probably George Washington, and hate to break it to you, but no one actually cares about National Honor Society and Honor Roll

Hotair, what about American? Do you think I should apply test-optional for American?

Your GPA does not compensate for not having test scores, so try and up the scores and include them. Like Hotair said NHS and honor roll have basically no impact on admissions (especially because honor roll means literally nothing). Boston college and BU are also probably unlikely. You need to start looking at slightly less competitive schools.

I think everyone is being kinda harsh about gwu… Honestly you have no change at georgetown but I do think I might be possible at gwu. I know people from my high school who have gotten in with 3.5 and similar test scores. Gwu is really into showing interest. Attend everything that they offer nearby and try and visit. They also highly take your interview into account. Gwu really looks into the applicant rather than just numbers, in my opinion. If you write great essays and REALLY show passion I think you have a decent shot. Also consider Ed too. I would say you are likely in at American.

TtaayylloorrD thanks for your input!

I know georgetown is impossible, but I always thought GWU and American was possible. I think GWU is a very big reach for me, but with test scores brought up, it might help.
