Chances transferring to Smith?

I started college a few days ago, so I know this isn't a totally acurate representation either, but I'm attending Florida Atlantic University (things I can tell you about college - I've been accepted into their honors program (36 students per year max, I think there are about 25 of us though), awarded presidential scholarship, currently a member of SGA and I intend to join some other things once school starts.) Because I'm a commuter student, it's difficult for me to be involved with things on campus (I live an hour away, and I'm only at school three days a week). I thought joining some outside organizations might strangthen my application, so I'm currently awaiting an interview for a BBBS mentoring program. Any tips on looking more "involved" though?

High School Stats:
Jupiter High School, Jupiter, Florida
Non-weighted GPA: 3.4
Weighted GPA: I'm not entirely sure, but I'd assume it's around a 3.8
SAT: 1270 (730 v/ 540 m - considering retaking)
ACT: ---
AP Exams: English Lit - 4; English Comp - 4

Extracurricular Acitivites:
JHS Speech and Debate Team (9, 10, 11, 12) - This is by far my "stand out" EC; Points Chairman (11), President (12), Member of the National Forensic League (Degree of Superior Distinction - 810 pts.), Varsity Letter awarded (12, 11, 10), Ranked 1st all-time point earner for JHS, Debater of the Year, Ranked 1st Overall (10, 11, 12), Qualified for and broke at numerous national tournaments (including states & catnats), etc. Founded the "Summer Classics Series" (debate camp for middle schoolers) and coached a middle school debate team (10, 11, 12), currently a "volunteer coach" for two high school debate teams.

JHS Mock Trial Team (11, 12) - President (12)

JHS Law Club (11, 12 ) - President (12)

Social Studies National Honor Society (11, 12)

Thanks so much for your input ahead of time :)

I'm curious too, as this is my dream school. I'll be transferring from a CCC, but my GPA isn't really good. (3.0-3.2 range)

BUMP!

(My stats can be found in my previous posts on CC, I'm going to transfer in Fall 2006.)

I don't mean to discourage either of you but I don't think there are that many people who have informed insight on transfers to Smith. There are only a couple of handfuls every year.

Have you tried tracking down your local Smith alumni association? They're very active here (Los Angeles area) and good a getting and dispensing information for people. I don't know about other areas.

I'm blanking at the moment...one of the Smith deans would have responsibility for interaction with the alumni groups and might be able to point you in the right direction.

Sorry, theDad. What's left of my Latin compels me to make a gentle correction: 50 years ago there were alumni at Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. Smith has always had, and we hope always will have (!), alumnae.

Pesto, I'd accept the correction except that it is, indeed, an Alumn*i* Association. It says so right on the magazine and in the mailings. I have a good friend, male, who actually ran as the sacrificial lamb for the office of president of the Alumni association. Graduate school of Social Work.

You can often beat TheDad on detail and punctilio...but not on this one.

Actually, I am looking at the Fall 2005 Smith ALUMNAE Quarterly so I think you are wrong on this one. David had a good time visiting you this weekend.
Ellen

Shoot, I've got a mailing from the AlumI association somewhere.

Oh well, there are male alumni unless my friend is imaginary.

Glad David had a good time...hope he got to his next destination okay and rested...what a frenetic schedule.
