...other things i cant remeber right now

Reach in my opinion
Slight reach to reach if applying EA

Some of your ECs are kind of just things you need to pay a few thousand to attend like the National Youth Leadership Conference. I suppose it is better than using a few thousand and going on a real vacation to japan, but it isn't much better in my opinion.

What's your rank?

my school doesnt rank

GPA is decent. SAT is a bit on the low side. Apply early and it's a 1 in 3 shot.

what if i raised my Sat score to a 1400 or so M+V

Then I'd give you a 50/50 chance if you applied early.

seems like you haven't been dedicated (EC wise) to one thing for your 4 years of high school... You got a C+ in honors Alg II, wow, that is some easy stuff (I got an A in my honors algebra II class, and my school is KNOWN for its hard math and science courses) Low SATs... you get more than one B... Apply, but expect to be dissapointed.

Thanx everybody...i was just wondering my chances...i really want to go to UVA tho.

Oistrakh, easy for you maybe, but not for everyone. Don't be full of yourself. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who look at your stats laugh.

Goodcolleges, pimp yourself to Penn...take your biggest strength and latch yourself on to its respective department.

^^^i wanted to say that so bad but i didnt lol

Any way you could take additional AP classes? I think you should apply ED.

Being a URM gives you a better chance than most. The increase in grades from sophomore to junior year helps, the leadership in the ECs helps, and the fact that you've been working and moved to a job at the US Dept of Education from a cashier's job is good. Right now, you need to drop the Who's who reference (it's bogus--everyone knows you just pay to get listed), do more volunteer work between the hours at the regular job, and then move those SAT I test scores up to the 2100 level--and get good SAT II scores and you have a good chance.

Also, how good are you in track and field? If you are competitive at the college level, then you have another "hook" that would help you get in.

Your AI is around 205 to 209, if you can get 700s on your SAT IIs. Normally a student needs 211+ for the Ivies, but URMs are generally required to be around 202 to 208 minimum with 5 plus honors courses--so you are right there.

Best of luck.

"Your AI is around 205 to 209, if you can get 700s on your SAT IIs. Normally a student needs 211+ for the Ivies, but URMs are generally required to be around 202 to 208 minimum with 5 plus honors courses--so you are right there."

Yes, each of the Ivies - which do not have varying standards in the slightest - are looking for URM's in the 202-208 range with a precise minimum of 5+ honors courses. Where do you get your facts? How can you infer that a 211 is acceptable for a non-URM at Penn yet precisely a 202 is acceptable for a URM? Your claims are so abritrary and obscure that they lack value.

Now for some actual advice. The GPA and SAT are both slightly low even for a URM candidate. The best thing you can do for yourself at this point is improve your SAT t0 700+ in each of the 3 sections. Also apply ED for an extra boost. However, with your GPA Penn is still going to be a reach unless your SAT scores end up above 2200.

Good luck! :)

That's what I like about you stambliark41--you post no statistics in rebuttal, yet you criticize the statistics I post--and somehow believe you have made a logical argument. I have my statistics from a reliable source--located here:

http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/resources/calculator.html

See the part in the middle about the average admitted student having a 211 this past year--oh, and Michelle Hernandez is a former admissions counselor at Dartmouth and charges her clients $28k per year for advice. I got the other numbers from her via questions asked by clients of hers who I know personally.

Now, since I've given the source for my statistics--what is your basis for criticizing them? Where are your sources that say that an AI of less than 211 is fine for most students or that less than 202 is fine for URM.

Do me a favor, will you? Next time be reasonable with your remarks. Ask where I got my statistics before you start criticizing them. That's what reasonable people do--and is how we all will learn from each other.

Notice also, that is what I am doing--I'm not going to criticize your statistics until I see them and can determine their validity--maybe you have some that point to a flaw in Michelle Hernandez's stats. If so, let's see them. I'm waiting.
