What are my chances at grad school:

GPA: 3.0/4.0 (engineering)

Taking GRE next month

Don't really have professors that can write me recs yet

Have research, but only doing very basic busy work (and not in my field of interest)

Worked on one project (club project)

What are my chances? I know they are not looking good, but I really want a MS degree from a decent or top school in engineering. What schools do you think I should apply to?

Your chances at top schools are pretty much 0 even for an MS. Depending on where you got your 3.0 from will affect your chances at lower ranked schools. MS is more lenient with research experience and seeing that you basically have none is a downside.

Damn, I thought so :(

Do you know any schools that it would be good for me to apply to?

Check out Chico. Great school.

So there is almost no chance for me at mid/top level schools?

Maybe I should just get a job then.

Also how about business school? I’ve had a part time job during school, but no real work experience.

I wouldn’t say they are 0, especially given that we have virtually no information about you from this. All we know is your GPA - you don’t know your GRE, we don’t know what your recs look like, we really don’t know what your research experience looks like, and we don’t know what your statement looks like either.

I would say rather that none of us really have enough information to give you a percent value. Ask your professors.

Rather than saying no chance, a more appropriate response would be that this information given provides no advantage to your application. If you can do very well on the GRE and then get good lors down the line and be very clear about your goals in the sop, then maybe.
