I have a 3.7 unweighted, 4.2 weighted. My ACT is a 31. I swim competitively but I also am a member of BPA, NHS, Spanish club, trebuchet club, and another another volunteer group.
If i write some good essays, what are my chances?

Based on those statistics alone, decent chances. Of course much more goes into the actual process of selecting an applicant. People who’s stats match schools get rejected from them all the time.

Last year, my son’s friend got rejected at BC, even though he had a 740 on his math sat, and came from a top private high school in San Francisco.

The kid did get into Michigan and Washington University.

So it would seem that BC is rather hard to get into nowadays.

Dear mmcostigan : If your application boils down to a 3.7 GPA, a 31 ACT, a couple of lines about clubs, and some “good” essays, you’ll be rejected. Seriously, you can look up the metrics on College Board to see if your numbers fit. To evaluate your candidacy, you just have to spend a few more minutes to share non-numerical details.

Topics include, but are not limited to, sports, clubs (included), honor societies (NHS here - what impact has it had?), leadership positions, arts, music, awards, community activities, volunteerism, summer jobs, college courses, special projects and presentations, and a myriad of others. Let us have a little more background to offer a more valuable assessment with guidance/suggestions.

I’ll try to do a better job
4 years if varsity swimming, co-captain for 2 years. Alton telegraph honorable mention for swimmer of the year
2 years of being treasurer for, and also a founder of, my teams teen volunteer group
Attended Illinois Premier Boys State
Chairman of Food Drive Committee for NHS
I might be forgetting stuff but I think those are all the significant things, at least.
Also, I improved my superscore for the ACT to a 32 if that effects anything.

I’ve been a life guard for 3 years, volunteer at special Olympics every year. As far as APs, my school doesn’t offer a ton. We have physics, bio, chem, stats, calc ab/bc, micro/macro, and geography is new this year, but we don’t have any of the history APs. I’m taking calc ab and physics, but I’ve taken all honors classes. My grades have also been improving every year.
