chances

I just got my SAT scores so I’m reposting my chances… I’m a junior at a competitive Canadian prep school (American citizen). This is my first year here, I attended a decent American public school for my first two years.

GPA: I had about a 98 average at my old school; here I have about a 90… they have a conversion chart that puts this at about 97 at an American HS. My school does not rank, but I would be in the top 10%.
SAT: 2120; 730 V, 720 W (10 essay), 670 M… will take SAT II’s.
AP: My school does not offer many AP courses due to the strength of its general curriculum; I am self- studying for AP U.S. history and will take 3 or 4 AP classes next year.

Other stuff: 1) Debate- I am going to the Canadian national championships this weekend. If I do well, I will go on to the world championships
2) Hockey- I am a member of the first team here and I have devoted a fair amount of my time throughout HS to hockey.
3) Other ECs: - Running for school prefect next year
- Politics Club
- Jazz band
- Will intern in a law office and do some summer college stuff this summer

- Other stuff as well, but nothing too important… I can produce a laundry list if needed… but I prefer not to…

Chances, suggestions?

As almost anyone will tell you here, spend time on your essays and make them good and you have real shot.

Wow, juniors already- I remember when I was in your shoes. That was a sad sad time. Your numbers seem right. You're right about the activities- DON'T produce a laundry list on your application. Laundry lists get old- they make you look flighty. It's better to communicate strong dedication to a few pursuits then an excess of activities.

prefect?

where do you go? hogwarts?

haha no... but like hogwarts, we are modeled after the whole british boarding school thing

all the schools in England have prefects (I was one briefly)- and Canada is like England's crazy cousin- the one no one talks about.

and the one that spoils the potatoe salad at Barbeques.

I remember the anxiety of being a junior...I'm so glad THAT's over. It turned me into a score-obsessed moron.

Your numbers are very similar to mine, and your extracurriculars are better. If you write fantabulous essays, you have an amazing chance. On that note, make sure to go through at least five versions of your essay before you submit it if you are very serious about UofC! And get many [intelligent] people to read it! IE - English teachers, etc.

hmm....nobody read mine

And I'm insane.

yeah...my ma was the only one who read mine. I got in.

I guess it varies then. I must've edited mine a million times and had two English teachers go over them with me to make sure that it was perfect. I was super-paranoid...

thanks for the replies, everyone
