Also, are there any scholarships that I'm eligible for? How much scholarship money should I expect?

I think you are good for admission to UT, but stragner things have happened. What majors are you looking at?

As for scholarships, you should except no money. Only 55% of UT students get any merit-based scholarship and the average amount for these is something around $1000 a year.

You have the credentials that might get you looked at for a 40 Acres Scholarship (formerly the Texas Exes Award for Leadership and Excellence) or for a Dedman Distinguished Scholarship (you must apply to Plan II Honors or Liberal Arts Honors to be considered), but there are hundreds of applicants who meet the criteria for these two scholarships each year, and only 15 get picked to even interview for each scholarship.

Some schools, like the Engineering School and the Geosciences school, hand out scholarships like candy because they have lots of private donor money for scholarships. Other schools, like the Business School, award no merit based scholarships at all. The College of Liberal Arts awards 5 merit awards a year for a freshman class of around 3000.

Make sure you indicate your interest in the Texas Exes scholarships when you file the scholarship application. These are usually small awards, but everything helps. With a 33, I’m assuming you’ll be a National Merit Semifinalist, so keep up on your paperwork and make sure you get as much money as possible from them. Also you can do research on outside scholarships and I think you’ll have a good shot at getting some. You can look for a close chapter of the Texas Exes (UT Alumni assocation), and many chapters give scholarships to local students.

Your essays will be what set you apart from the crowd of the high achieving crowd. You have excellent stats but you have to set yourself apart from the crowd if you want money. Don’t EXPECT to get anything, but maximize your chances and you have a strong chance of banking some serious money at UT.

Only if he scored high enough on the PSAT/NMSQT. The high ACT score doesn’t qualify for NMF status (unless you know of some secret way, because I’ve looked into it and so far, the only way to NMSF or NMF is through the above test).

Anyway, anish10, I cannot imagine that you would not gain admission to UT with your rank, scores, rigor of schedule, ec’s, etc. If you write the most ridiculously awful essays imaginable, then maybe you’ll get denied :)

You’re in. Don’t expect any scholarships though if you aren’t a National Merit Semi/Finalist.

Yeah, I don’t expect to be a National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist. I did terrible on them.

I want to major in business. I was hoping for some sort of scholarship because the OOS tuition is a quite a bit, but a University of Alabama alumni told me UA is #2 in giving scholarship money and UT is #1.

Business is a little bit harder than the rest of UT to get in, so keep up with your studied and ECs and try to take more leadership roles. You will have a decent chance, even at BHP.

anish, the Bama alumnus probably meant the University of Tennessee, which people in the Deep South call “UT.”

No, he said University of Texas. I just didn’t feel like typing it out.

anish, UT, as in Texas, is extremely stingy with scholarship money! The loneranger pretty much spelled it out above as to who and how to get $$$

My son, who is a junior business major there now, got zilch, nada, nothing, and he was ranked #1 out of 446, with a high ACT score, amazing EC’s, awards out the wazoo-city and statewide, fantastic recommendations, etc. He didn’t have “economic hardship” and just about everybody else he was matriculating with in the business school had the same type stats as he did, so they don’t have to give any money to attract students.

My youngest son, who will apply for 2010, is a sal. with 33 ACT, and decent EC’s, no awards, but solid recommendations. We are hoping for some $$$ from the Engineering College, but not holding our breath!!

ag54, Engineering is fairly generous with scholarships–I think the “Cockerell” part of the school of engineering is a large part of this, and is fairly recent.

I actually can’t think of any engineering students I know who DON’T have scholarships of some kind from the engineering school.

Woohoo!! That is good to hear!

It will be music to my ears to actually get some $$ from UT - I’ve certainly been sending them enough of it for the last 2 years ;)

(but, just because I’m a cynic, I won’t hold my breath yet  LOL)
