chances

I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what my chances are...

The two colleges I'm considering most are Northeastern and UMASS Amherst. I don't think my grades would keep me out, but I have little to no extracurricular activities- I know I made a mistake, but I just never really got involved in anything "extra."

So these are my stats:

GPA: 3.6-3.7 (unweighted)

SATS: 2160 (680 math, 740 writing, 740 critical reading)

I take honors classes in every subject that offers them (my junior year, I took honors english, honors history, physics, precalculus, Latin IV, and AP Latin). Next year, I'm taking 4 honors classes but no APs.

This summer, I'm doing community service, which will probably add up to be about 20 hours total, over about 5 weeks. That's really the only extracurricular thing I've done. I'm taking journalism next year, and in it we work on the school paper, but I don't know if that counts since it's an in-school activity.

So do you think I could still use UMASS as a safety? And does anyone know how much emphasis Northeastern puts on activities? I'm getting really worried I won't get in anywhere because of my lack of activities. And is 20 hours of community service over the summer worth putting on an application?

It's a shame you don't have any ec's. I'm going to be honest--it reflects poorly on you because it makes you seem too 1 dimensional. Colleges don't want that, they want individuals. Now you have the numbers to get into probably some ivy league schools, but you lack the after school commitments.
I think you NEED to have an interview and explain that although you didn't have any ec's this void in you is a drive to be more extroverted in activities in college. You will also need your essays and recs to be stellar! I think you could use this to your advantage and get into some great schools. Good luck!

edit:
Also your lack of AP's will do a little bit of damage to you. Is it that your school only offered 1 or a small amount? If that is the case then don't worry about it.

thanks for the help! My school has AP English, but the only way I could have fit it into my schedule would have been to get rid of my only senior science class or a required gym class. And I wasn't eligible for AP Calculus.

I'm not even considering Ivy League schools... My top 2 are Umass and Northeastern...Umass I think I could use as a safety, since they accept over 80% of the people who apply. I doubt they even care about ECs, but I could be wrong... Northeastern I'm not sure about. I'm thinking about getting an interview, though. I know it's a lot more competitive.

I think you'll definately get into UMass b/c colleges that are extremely large seem to be more numbers orientated. You'll probably get some $$$ from U-Mass. I still think you could give some more competitive schools a try :)

edit:
don't worry about the AP's then.
