so pretty much, i applied to uci as a bio major. i got in as a bio major. BUT some family drama came up and i couldnt complete my last semester of organic chemistry this past spring semester, so my transfer counselor told me i had to change my major. i changed it to chemistry.

......after looking at all the chemistry classes ill be taking and taking note that i am not at all equipped as a chem major (i didnt take multivariable calc and i took the physics series for the bio majors), i really really dont wanna be a chem major (i honestly hate chemistry). biology is my passion, definitely not chemistry.

even as a transfer into the bio major, i realized that there are still a handful of lower division courses that i still need to take (bio 97, 98, 99) since they werent available at my cc.
i was wondering that if in this year of catching up to bio courses that i didnt take (o-chem, those listed bio courses), while taking some chemistry major courses, would it be possible to switch my major to biochemistry or cell biology?

please help, if i stay with chemistry, i know im gonna hate my UCI experience here...

Basically the same situation here, so I decided to change my major to Pharmaceutical Sciences. It’s a major only offered by UCI (at least in the UC system), and you still have to take BioSci 97, 98 and 99, anyway. I’m gonna see what I think about PharmSci and if I really don’t like it, I’ll try to switch back into bio. But you never know, it’s a cool area of study, and gets the best of both the bio and chem worlds. Take a look at their requirements and classes, it might be worth it. And yes, it is possible to change majors to Bio later on, but there are some restrictions and requirements… You can check them here: [UCI Change of Major Criteria: School of Biological Sciences](http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_BioSci.html)

I also think your physics sequence is one of the options to fulfill the physics requirement. And PharmSci doesn’t require multivariable calc, although it requires a third math class to choose from stats, biostats, and multivariable calc. It may be a better fit for you than Chemistry. I’m just trying to suggest you something new that maybe you haven’t considered yet… It could probably help you avoid all the chem major courses while still getting ready for bio. Good luck! :)

No idea. I changed mine in May, using the message system in the admissions portal… You should either send a message to your admissions counselor or call him/her tomorrow… I don’t know about any deadlines, either. Worst case scenario, if you do decide to change from Chem to PharmSci, you would have to go through the change of major process that involves both your current major and your intended major. But since you haven’t started taking classes or anything, I’m not sure. Contact your admissions counselor and find out
Have you decided to change to PharmSci? Or are you just contemplating the possibility?

I sent my admissions counselor an email regarding the situation and she changed it for me woohoo! As far as academic advising, she gave me the contact info I need to figure that out :)

That’s awesome!! We will probably be classmates then, haha
Call them ASAP and schedule your academic advising!! I got the email last week, called the next morning at 9am and the first option was already full.
These are the days they’re offering it:
Tuesday, June 18th from 9-12 pm (already full when I called)
Tuesday, June 18th from 1:30-4:30 pm
Tuesday, July 9th from 1:30-4:30 pm
