Changing an AP class to a non-AP class affecting UC admissions?

Hi,

My son wants to downgrade one of his AP classes to a plain class for the second semester due to many issues. We have had some family emergencies and illnesses because of which he is kind of behind in that AP class and more than anything his teacher sucks for this class and she is known to all seniors for her notorious nature in handling students and their exams. Her class size has reduced from 37 to 18 over the year and so you can imagine what kind of teacher she has.

A few of my son’s classmates have downgraded this AP class after getting admission from the colleges (and they informed the colleges) but none of them are for UCs and given this, I was wondering if any of you out there have had experience of making this kind of change in the last (8th) semester after getting admitted to a UC campus and if so, how was it handled by the campus admissions office ? Which campus have you had the experience with?

I would love to hear any of your experiences regarding this so that we can take the appropriate step for this. This is the only class over 4 years that my son had a C in the first semester (rest are all As and Bs) and now he wants to downgrade that class to an ordinary class. Do you think the UC campuses will handle it okay? How do you think we should approach the college? Please advise. Thank you so very much for your inputs.

Call the admission offices and ask. We had to do this with Stanford when my son wanted to drop a class second semester.
