Changing grading to P/NP

I've been slacking off a bit in Bio 1AL. I've only started to become more serious about it now. Since I am a Bio major, this is not good. If I changed the grading to Pass/Not Pass, and then retook the class next semester for a letter grade, how would that look on my transcript? (As compared to getting a B- or C+ in lab and then retaking it for an A.)

You can retake a class you pass?

from what I understand, you have to retake it pass/not pass, you can't change it to a letter grade (and vice versa)

I am in the same boat. Except, I talked with the people in Campbell, and they told me it is okay to pass the class and then retake for letter grade. I was toying with the change grade option button on Telebears and ended up changing it, but I realized that Telebears wouldn't let me change back to letter grade because the deadline for pnp-->letter was back in September...and I checked the course website which said that 1AL is not allowed to be taken p/np for MCB majors, so now I don't know what to do...

Did they tell you that a pass grade would be preferable to a low letter grade? I figure it would have to be, since it wouldn't drop the GPA. But how would grad schools look at it if I had a P on Bio 1AL in Fall 2006 and an A in Bio 1AL in Spring 2007? I could get an A pretty easily since I'm already exposed to all of this material. I just think P/A looks a lot better than C+/A.
