Changing Intended Major/College?

<p>How would I go about doing that? I applied for undecided L&S and I wish to transfer to another college or major. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.</p>

<p>you can decide your l&s major easily, but it's much more difficult to transfer to a different college. they'll probably tell you at orientation to take classes in your intended major and you can declare your major later.</p>

<p>Mh, so I have to be in that college to declare that major? I thought Cal let you design your own undergraduate major or something to that effect?</p>

<p>I have a similar question as well. I was admitted to the College of Engineering as a CivilE. If I should find that it doesn't suit me, then when could I change to a different college/major?</p>

<p>For example, could I change during my first year? And how difficult is it to? Or do you just work towards the major you wish to be in and then wait to switch over in the meantime?</p>

<p>You could - there's some sort of application form at Campbell Hall and you have get some signatures or something. A warning though - a new policy at Berkeley is that if you're in CoE and your GPA is too low, they will NOT let you transfer out. This is to prevent L&S from becoming essentially a "dumping grounds."</p>

<p>From the LS-Advise website:</p>

<p>You will be considered for change of college only if (not counting college credit you earned while still in high school) you:</p>

<pre><code>* Have completed at least one semester of coursework at UC Berkeley
* Have completed fewer than 90 units at the end of your last term before admission to the College
* Are able to complete your degree within the College's unit limit
* Have completed Entry Level Writing and the first half of the Reading and Composition requirement (if you have completed 30 units or more)
* Have also completed the second half of the Reading and Composition requirement (if you have completed 60 units or more)
* Are eligible to declare a major (if you have completed 60 units or more)

Please note: Grade Point Average is also a significant consideration for admission to the College. Students who meet all other criteria and have a 3.0 or higher GPA are more likely to be approved.
</code></pre>

<p>You MUST submit:</p>

<pre><code>* The Change of College petition
* A personal statement outlining your academic plans and your reasons for requesting admission into the College of Letters and Science
</code></pre>

<p>Application periods:</p>

<pre><code>* Fall semester:

the first day of instruction through November 1
  • Spring semester:

the first day of instruction through June 1

    </code></pre>
