Hi! Could I potentially switch my major from Architecture to Biology at U.Va?

The college of arts and sciences is the default school, which is easy to transfer into from other schools (such as from engineering, nursing and architecture). When I went to UVa many years ago, many arch students transferred into the college.

If a student is in doubt between nursing, engineering or architecture vs. the college, it is better to start in those non-college programs. That is because it will be easier to graduate on time. If a student for instance would start in the college and then try to transfer to architecture or engineering, they may need extra semesters (and there is no guarantee they would be accepted). However, most architecture and engineering students could graduate on time in the college if they transferred to the college after the first year.

You can go to the bio dept. website and see what is required to officially become a bio major. In other depts., you typically have to complete a couple courses in a dept. and do well in them before you can officially become a major in that dept, but I haven’t read the requirements for bio. You can be an undeclared student in arts and sciences until you officially would be accepted as a bio major.

Other people are welcome to correct me if any of this info is out of date.
