Higher SATs get the larger scholarships. Seems to count more than GPA. You can see how they score you for scholarships using the Net Price Calculator on Chapman’s website. And the standards for getting scholarships are higher for Dodge then for the rest of Chapman.
@isoko, just joined the group as well, saw your post
I put in my information on the net calculator and I may qualify for the Dean’s scholarship. How competitive are they in terms of granting scholarships based on overall test scores and academic achievement?
@skcyking72 from what I have read, that calculator is pretty accurate. Test scores and GPA are what the merit scholarships are based on. It varies by intended major - which is why they have you select a department there. Only other variable is they supposedly have their own way of calculating and weighting your GPA.
posted on twitter. EA decisions released at 5pm pacific TONIGHT!
SAT and ACT scores are more fair way to determine the scholarship. Some inner city high schools are so easy to get all “A” s for just average students so they can score only 1100 on SAT but getting 4.7 GPA. Some schools and teachers award over 70% of the classes an “A” but some schools only 10% get an “A” and even some get “D” and “F”. I found most private schools give majority of the class an “A” even on just so so private Christian high schools. I guess you have to pay money for the school, they better award you with a 4.7 GPA so you can get into Harvard.
3 minutes until the first decisions come out. Check your email and portal and don’t worry if you don’t get a decision right away. They have probably been hard at work to get all the letters signed and put into the system so they can push them out tonight before the office closes for their winter break and before the weekend. Check throughout the evening and good luck.
Has anyone received anything?
Check your portal there’s an update !!
@Isoko yes if he got a merit scholarship it would be in the admission notice. They did say the merit scholarships were much more competitive this year. My son also did not get one because of his SAT score and his weighted GPA was well over 4.0. They also don’t take freshman classes into consideration.
@Wel1207 It was only the binding Early Decision film production students that heard this week. Early Action will hear in February, As for stats, film production places a lot of weight on the creative supplement. Chapman makes sure they meet the minimum criteria for Chapman admissions and then gives Dodge a lot of leeway. It’s not so much experience or even film samples (which are not accepted) but how they respond to the essay prompts Dodge gives including a story and a film created specifically for the application with a unique prompt. They look at the ability to tell a story visually. Because of this you will have a wide variety of stats admitted. My son was WELL under the SAT you list and lower than @lsoko 's son. Film production is very unique in it’s admission process.
Just heard! I didn’t get an email so make sure you check your portal anyways. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted!
Pre-Pharmacy Freshman Early Assurance Program ED - ACCEPTED!
I got in as a Philosophy major. Thank you to everyone for answering my questions and preparing me for the reveal. I have nothing better to do tonight and have some schoolwork but that can wait until tomorrow. Tonight was about staying glued to my computer, and for the past week I have mentally prepared myself but please do post if you get accepted and under what major so I can give you a shoutout on this forum. I liked my chances and playing my best weapons in terms of volunteer work, gpa, activities, and the like. Test scores were my main concern but they are holistic and do not lie when it comes to choosing the right students to represent their school.
