good luck everyone! just remember, no matter the decision, you will end up exactly where you’re supposed to be, everything happens for a reason, and you are NOT defined by the college application system <3

For any last minute motivational words, I want to share to you guys the notion of rejection, especially from my dream school.

This past summer, I toured a bunch of California colleges to see where I would apply and where I would fit. USC, UCLA, Claremont Colleges, San Diego State, Occidental, Santa Clara, University of San Francisco, etc, and yes, Chapman as well.

I only have a 3.28 Unweighted, 3.37 Weighted GPA, with okay extracurriculars and no test scores, so you’d imagine me not getting into a bunch of decent colleges.

After touring, and keeping into mind “realistic” choices, Santa Clara, Chapman, Loyola Marymount, and Occidental easily appealed to me to most. I saw myself thriving in the campuses and contributing in a multitude of ways.

I’ve gotten into a bunch of private California colleges so far, including University of San Francisco, San Diego Christian, Biola University, University of La Verne, and Vanguard University.

A while back I got deferred from Soka University of America, but I wasn’t too fazed by it. Yesterday however I got deferred by Santa Clara University, and considering it’s one of my top picks, it kinda discouraged me.

Firstly, take a look at your Common Application. You placed 100% into it. You did your best. What decision you received isn’t reflective of all your arduous work you’ve placed these past 4 years. If the admissions counselors couldn’t see that, then it’s their loss not yours.

I did feel upset for a little while, but then I took a peek at all my acceptance letters I have gotten. Then I saw University of San Francisco, a school I didn’t think I would attend. I began doing research on it and the more there was to see, the more USF grew on me. I didn’t even know they had a 4+1 masters Biology program, which is something that really appeals to me and something that Santa Clara doesn’t have.

Now I perceive the premise that USF is a better fit for me and I can easily see myself thrive in the Dons community for the next 4 years, if that’s where I decide to attend.

My point from my story is that rejection is always going to hurt. It’s okay to embrace these feelings, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reject your other choices.

Go eat a couple of spoons of ice cream, then take a look at your other schools. Check for silver linings that they have, resources that appeal to you, how you would fit into campus, things that your dream school probably didn’t even have.

I know it’s still early to evaluate all your choices considering it’s December, but as the college admissions process persists, just know that all the puzzle pieces will fall into place. But it won’t happen alone, you must place that effort of discovering what you want from a school and how you will thrive. After all, you’re the individual that defines a school, not the other way around.

So as I open my Chapman EA decision today at 5pm with the rest of you guys, just know that I’m proud of all of you and your decision will not seemingly erase all that hard work you placed into the application.

Sometimes a dream school is just that, a dream…

Does anyone think it could come out before 5 pst?

Idk, they haven’t said what time :weary:

This was so nice to hear. I wish you and everyone else best of luck at Chapman and I know everyone will end up happy at whatever university they decide to attend

When did ED decisions come out?

Thank you for that. Truly, thank you!

Wishing you the best of luck! That was wise way beyond your years - a good message for even us moms to take a deep breath and remember that you will definitely end up in the place that is best for you.

Do you know if they send an email as well, or do you just go look at the portal at five?
