my d is a junior at hs and wants to do her major in film..which of the schools is better for film..she does not have a great background of art as not much is offered in her hs and the 3 sketches required for the portfolio at risd would be a consideration..what does chapman require on the portfolio if you want to major in film production

have you considered some of the schools that are better known for film?

namely:

tisch, sva, suny purchase film conservatory, emerson, usc, etc?

Chapman University has one of the top film schools in the country. Obviously Tisch and USC are better known but Chapman should be a serious consideration. Chapman's program continues to grow as the community has embraced it and it continues to receive some major funding. It's colse proximity to LA doesn't hurt either!

one of the things we have to keep in mind while applying to a school is on campus housing for our D.should we opt for an art school with a more rounded liberal art program and foundation studies or a program like Chapman which is more film centric with the kids making films from the 1st year?..it is confusing as I spoke to some friends working at major studios and they said whether you had done a BFA or a BA from a liberal arts college it didnt make a difference when you actually went out to get a job as sometimes they dont like the bfa's from USC as they find that they carry a I know it all attitude..your thoughts would be nice

I am still in the process of getting my musically theater oriented D to Northwestern this fall, but I took a peek at this thread for my S who is a film crazy freshman in HS!! What is SVA?

school of visual arts in nyc. A very very strong program. much stronger than risd for film (specifically, though risd is strong in animation).

northwestern film is a strong program as well

does sva have in campus housing or like a lot of NY schools you end up staying in a building in Manhattan. My D being an international student never having lived in the US may find staying by herself in big city like NY a bit overwhelming..any other programs that we can opt for where we are assured of incampus housing for freshmen.thanks

SVA has housing for students: School of Visual Arts > > Residence Life

Thanks for the information
