Hello, I was accepted today as a transfer today. My packet has no mention of scholarships. Was wondering when and how you figure out that information...the NetCalculator said I should get 10,000 in merit. Thanks.

Hi Jack,

Congratulations on your acceptance into Chapman U.

I just searched on the web for an answer to your question. What I found out is that the main Chapman U scholarships available for new transfer students are:

“The Board of Trustees and Founders Scholarships are awarded to new transfer students based on their GPAs at their previous colleges.”

<a href=“Institutional Awards | Undergraduate Financial Aid | Chapman University”>http://www.chapman.edu/students/tuition-and-aid/financial-aid/scholarships-and-grants/institutional-awards.aspx

As you can see these scholarship are based upon your GPA from your previous college, not on the financial need you calculated on the Net Cost Calculator which is based upon your and/or your family’s financial circumstances. Your calculation of a possible $10,000 of financial award based upon need would come from a Chapman U Grant which if awarded would come and be listed in your Financial Aid letter.

Regarding the idea of a Merit Scholarships (which do exist at Chapman) they are based upon ones academics not upon financial need.

You will receive your financial aid letter way before the May 1 acceptance deadline so you will have time to figure out what to do. I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for the response! The calculation I did was for the Founders scholarship.

Hi Jack,

I understand your question now. The Net Cost Calculator now includes GPA input for transfer students and GPA & SAT/ACT score input for Freshman students. When my son applied 2 years ago the calculation of possible scholarships were not part of this Calculator; it was all financial input information leading to a rough idea on what financial aid in grants, loans & federal work study money might be given.

I contacted Chapman U regarding your question and they said that the scholarship if given should have appeared & stated in your admission’s package. The Board of Trustees and Founders Scholarships would not show up on your financial aid letter if they were not contained in your admission’s package. They said you should contact the Chapman Office of Admissions at (714) 997-6711 or toll free (888) CU-APPLY to clarify why you didn’t recived the scholarship or to correct this mistake. They said you should not call the Office of Financial Aid because it is an Office of Admissions determination.

I hope you receive this Scholarship!

Thank you very much for your help!
