Cheap housing near Columbia?

Hi,
I am a prospective Combined Plan program at Columbia. I am just wondering what would be the cheapest housing near Columbia. I know that if I choose to live in a college dorm, I would have to live in Carlton Arms. Carlton Arms costs about $8,500 a year, according to the website. Is there any housing cheaper than $8,500 so that I can save money?
Thank you.

If you haven’t been told, Columbia is in New York City. Their housing is a bargain compared to what is available on the market.

what do you mean their housing is a bargain compared to what is available on the market?

Rents are high in NYC, and Columbia doesn’t require a full 12-month lease.

Where are you from? The cost of living in NYC is very high. You won’t find an apartment or room to rent for that cheap. On campus housing is the best deal you are going to get.

Most apartments in Manhattan, and especially in places like Morningside Heights, don’t usually go any less than $2,000 a month. If you shop around further away or outside the borough you’ll probably get a way better deal, but I guess that kinda defeats the purpose of what you asked. Are you considering a roommate?
