Cheating & Rec Letters

Hello,

I’m a junior in HS. For a recent Science Olympiad tournament, I cheated (because it was online, so i searched the internet for some stuff). I, and a couple of other SciOly kids, were found out, and questioned by the teacher (who is also my AP Chem teacher).
I was super honest about what I did and told her the exact story of what I did. She said she appreciated my honesty, and that next year when I need recs (when I’m a senior and applying to college), even though usually students who’ve cheated wouldn’t ask that teacher to write a rec, she said she would be willing to write a rec for me, just because I was honest, and I said that yeah I was hoping she could next year.
Should I still ask her a rec next year?
I really hope I can because AP Chem is my favorite and the class I do the best in.

Thanks for any help.

(PS, this cheating thing wont show up on my academic record because it’s a first infraction, just a letter sent home).

I’d ask another teacher.

I’d ask another teacher too, unless she is willing to show you her rec letter so you can make sure her letter won’t hurt you.

Were you hoping to be a chem or stem major? If so, you might need this teacher’s LoR. Why not talk to her again to see the sort of points she would make in a letter?
