lol calm down joe schmoe i know what i'm doing. i just have no clue where i stand in chemistry. i mean i like the subject but that's not to say i'm a complete expert at it. i only took regular chem in high school and the rest -- i just self-studied through. i just want to make sure that if i take the course, i'll be able to pull off an A b/c gpa is some serious shiznit

Well, if you are all that interested, I got a 720 SATII chem (miraculously), no AP chem. High school GPA was 3.9ish... Physics isn't necessary (most people in the class probably didn't take physics...) but it certainly helps in AH. I took AP physics B in highschool, and some of the stuff covered in AH was exactly the same, but not to the extent that people who were good at physics were on easy street.

That being said, I don't think being necessarily good at chemistry beforehand is necessary to do well in the course... And that kinda applies to other courses you take as well. I mean, I didn't even know what colligative properties were, let alone be able to do calculations with them. I never did solubility, weak acid/base chem or electrochem either (kinda leaves me wondering what I did do in highschool chem, or how I even got through the SATII...), but I did very well in the class.

But in the end, I think doing well in this class is completely dependent on the amount of time you put into it. If you are willing to put in the effort to do well, then you shouldn't have a problem. And you could always see the prof, or the TAs (hopefully you have someone good...) if you have trouble... IMHO, calling the class honors is a little extreme. Its harder, yeah, but its harder for everyone! The hardest material covered isn't even covered in AP chem, so the hard stuff is new to everyone. So if you are having a hard time with it, chances are everyone else is too (and everyone else will)

And like I said, big curve! And he if I recall correctly, the final grades for AH-BH did not include very many D/F grades...

alright thanks a TON. i had a feeling it was like a prerequisite that one had a strong background in physics in order to take the class b/c that's what the course description said as well as some other folks. I mean though i may have gotten a top-notch sat2 chem score, i only studied the test which i guess was enough to achieve me such a decent score. i didn't know whether or not any prior knowledge of the subject was so much beneficial, so that's good you answered that.

Well, prior knowledge is pretty helpful, but by no means necessary... Thats true for most classes as well... Besides, people who really know what they are doing (i.e., got 5s on AP chem) are probably not going to be in any 6A class, AH or not.
