I have been accepted into the SEAS and would like to go on to medschool after undergrad. I know both majors are difficult and that both are well ranked, but I would like some input into which path I should take.

The good news is everyone takes the same classes freshman year, and then you apply to your major. The bad news is, you may not get the major of your choice. Biomed is the most competitive major to get into. It all depends on what you are more interested in: Chemistry or Biology.

I understand that the first year is pretty much set in stone, I was just wondering about after that. Is there a better choice? Should I work for biomed, or try for chemical? Also, does chemical have a cap like biomed or systems?

Every major is capped, but the majority of majors don’t reach those caps. I don’t think the ChemE major has reached its cap recently, though, so don’t worry about that. I would just focus on whichever field you’re interested in – you’ll enjoy your undergrad experience more, and with BME or ChE, you’ll get into good med schools either way.
