Would this work out? Since I would like to study chemistry, but my parents aren't going to pay for college unless I study engineering. Or otherwise, what about a double major in chemE and chem during undergrad? The engineering courses do not really appeal to me. I don't want to be designing equipment for chemical reactions; I want to study the reactions themselves. (example)

…and???

and what??

Haha this is actually my plan at the moment. I’m a chemE major, but my research group is in the chemistry department. I’m going to take a few extra chem classes as part of my chemE electives, so that I will have finished the Organic, Inorganic, and Physical chemistry sequences. I’ll eventually apply to both chemistry and chemE PhD programs, with chemistry being my first choice.

The engineering degree will be nice for job security in case graduate school doesn’t work out.

Nicely said, singh. The main thing is that to analyze chemical reactions, you will need to be in research and many of those jobs require a PhD. I certainly know that some of my ChemE professors were doing research into chemical reactions.
