Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering, Jobs

I've been planning to take chemE majors. But I read in some articles that chemE jobs are on decline, the demand is declining. I'm kinda lost. Is it true though?
Is it better if I take civil engineering?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1121619-university-graduate-career-surveys.html

But note that job and career prospects for each major may be different four or five years from now.

The advent of cheap natural gas in the US thanks to fracking has the potential to lead to a renaissance for the chemical industry here. There has been a recent surge in announcements by major companies of new chemical plant projects based upon this. Of course, whether they all end up be built remains to be seen. But these new plants will require ChemEs to design and operate them. Now if you want a job in Europe, it is a different picture.

chemE pay is usually much higher.

Thank you so much for the information! Really appreciate it xx
