This is a question for a friend who is interested in premed, but also wants to do chemical engineering to keep his options open. Would it be a bad idea to major in something diffcult when near perfect grades are expected. To his credit, he is very talented at math and science. He has gotten AIME scores of 6, 8, and 7 and has also made the semis of USABO and USACHO, as well as done research he's gotten published and has a crazy work ethic. You think he can pull it off?

With those statistics? Probably.

At an information session or potential pre-meds, the advisor said that ChemE majors at Princeton had the percent acceptance rate to med school as students in Chemistry or Molecular Bio.

Approx 30% of chemEs are pre-meds. It looks like your friend could handle it if he wanted to, and in fact, chemE has the most overlap with pre-med requirements, it wouldn't be much more difficult than just being a non pre-med chemical engineer. Of course, chemical engineering is one of the 2 or 3 most difficult majors on campus.
