Chemical engineering as a major and occupation?

I am high school senior looking towards becoming a chemical engineer. It would be preferred that I go to a college in the Mid-Atlantic region (Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, etc.) and consequently get a job in the region as well.

Are there good opportunities in this region for chemical engineers? I have been told that a lot of jobs are more towards the Texas/Louisiana range, and I don't know if I can move out there. I won't rule that option out yet, but am just wondering.

The entire Gulf Coast was called the chemical engineering heaven in and old thread here at CC. That’s all I can say. You should post this in the Engineering forum, someone there might be able to help you.
