OK so I’m wondering whether I should go into mechanical engineering or chemical engineering, and I’m at a crossroads. My end goal is to get a job in the energy industry (be it petroleum or renewable or whatever) so I can make a difference. On one hand an ME education would be basically free (local college) and on the other hand ChemE seems like a more logical place to get into that line of work. I have a passion and a knack for math and science (especially physics). What I’m concerned with ME is that I’ve never exactly been a grease monkey (though I love working with my hands (woodwork especially)), and on the other hand chemistry comes easy but it’s not exactly a passion if you know what I mean. What should I choose? Any help would be fantastic.
Free engineering degree sounds good. I think either can fit into the areas you are interested in if you want. I suggest you look through the want ad for jobs you think you want to fill and see what they are asking for.
