Hello everyone,
I am a transfer student from a CC. I got accepted into UC Berkeley and UC Davis and I am having a hard time choosing. At UC Berkeley I would be majoring in the Chemical & Nuclear Engineering joint major and at UC Davis I would be majoring in straight up Chemical Engineering. I chose the joint major at UC Berkeley because I did not have the Biology pre-reqs for their Chemical Engineering program. I thought that being a joint major would expand my opportunities when I graduate, but some people are saying that it would hinder me because there are not many nuclear jobs out there compared to chemE. I compared the two programs and they both take the same chemE courses. The only difference is the additional 6 nuclear engineering courses the joint major requires.I am very interested in Nuclear engineering, but not the plant process aspect, but rather the medical aspect. I feel that by choosing UC Berkeley, my only opportunity will be working for a nuclear power plant. Thanks in advance!
The UCB NE department does have some courses on medical radiology, such as NE 107, 162, 170B. You may want to check if you can fit them into the joint major.

The student from my kid’s high school went to Berkeley majored in EE and Nuclear engineering. He did intern at Lawrence Livermore lab and it took him 5 years to graduate. He only had one internship but spent most of the time doing TA work.
Hi ucbalumnus,
Would you please advise if I got admitted to UCSD, UCLA, UCSB under Chemical Engineering, which is the best school to attend out of 3? I want to enjoy college life. I visited SB and didn’t like the beach environment. It was way too relax for me. I try to avoid UCB because it’s too intense competition wise and I didn’t like the surrounding environ.
I also waiting decision from USC (ChemEng) and Stanford (deferred and submitted Subj Chem and mid-yr grade Jan.) If I do get offer from USC engineering and Stanford (everyone declare major in sophomore yr), would these 2 schools a better option to attend over the UC’s? One think I like USC is I finish all my math which they requires up to Mulitvariable Calculus. At UC’s I have to take 2 more upper Math Linear Alg + Diff Equ. I am just very stress out making the right choice. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
