Hi. I already signed up for classes, including General Chem and the lab that goes along with that. I noticed today that there is also a discussion for that course but it didn’t seem to be required like the calc discussion was for calculus. In other words, you could sign up for general chem without signing up for its discussion but couldn’t sign up for calc without signing up for the discussion, if that makes sense. Is the chem discussion something I should sign up for? Thanks!

I actually had this question, too. I signed up for the discussion just in case, because I can always drop it if I end up not needing it.

Ok I signed up for one of the discussions just in case, but I’d still like to know if you should sign up for a discussion and why it’s not required? Thanks!

Dear Jerseyyyy21 : The Chemistry discussion sessions are required and you should sign up. The discussion session you should attend is tied to the course you have selected - in other words, the discussion group is tied to the course and professor you have selected. Homework reviews (and help) and test reviews are typically held in these sessions. They are not as rigid as formal class settings with your professor, but are worthwhile sessions more often than not.

Ahhh ok thanks a lot scottj!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but… how do you sign up for chemistry discussion? Can I do it through BC UIS? thanks :)

Yep you can do it on BC UIS…make sure the professor corresponds with your lecture professor.

I’m thinking of majoring in chemistry if I get in BC…let me know of their chem curriculum there.

The Chem program is probably the strongest of BC’s science programs, altho the Bio department is revamping its curriculum so real research begins in the first lab. But don’t forget that BC also has a liberal arts Core, which requires readin’ and writin’, so you can’t hide out in science classes only. :)
