Chemistry or ChemE?

Hi,

I'm confused as to what major I should "plan" for in terms of classes for freshman year in college.

I'm currently interested in working with polymers (e.g. enhancing drug delivery).

However, upon some lab work this summer, I realized I'd rather "apply" polymers to medical applications than actually synthesizing the polymers themselves.

If I made any sense at all, what major would you recommend I start with?

Sounds like you are more interested in Chemical or Biological Engineering

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering typically have very similar or the same freshman class schedules.

However, career surveys tend to indicate that Chemical Engineering graduates do better in finding jobs immediately after graduation.

Chem=$15 per hour no benefits crap jobs or unemployed
ChemE=$50k starting + benefits.
