chemistry professors

We are visiting the accepted student days starting Sunday and bringing one of my D's friends who has never visited W but is very excited about it. Can anyone suggest some chemistry professors he might meet with? People's suggestions several weeks ago for us in physics and math were excellent!!

Hi. Most of them are really great. I would suggest Jay Thoman. A great guy, motivating professor and also teaches an amazing winter study class on Glassblowing!!

Prior to my S and I visiting Williams, he sent an email to Professor Kaplan, who invited us to stop by his Biochemistry lab. He was unbelievable!. He spent over an hour and a half chatting with my S about the Chemistry department and the research opportunities. He showed him some of the new equipment he had acquired with grant money and discussed how it fit into his research. I think my S’s decision to apply ED was made right there.

Tom Smith and David Richardson are widely regarded as the best chemistry professors. I had both of them for orgo lab, and they are very friendly and enthusiastic about chemistry. Also, Richardson is the chair of the department so it might be good to talk to him anyways if your daughter’s friend is thinking about majoring in chemistry.
