As I dive in deeper to my college search and choosing my major, I wonder if Chemistry is still a major worth considering. I enjoyed taking my AP Chemistry class in high school and am considering it as my major. If I was to choose this, what may be a good minor to go along with this? I enjoy mathematics but am not sure if that’s necessary! Thank you to all that answer, it goes a long way for me
Why are you thinking of chemistry? (I’m curious.) There are mixed reports on its job market.
Just because I really enjoyed my AP class in high school and am interested in science and math and careers similar
Check out the chemistry job types and prospects to see if you’re comfortable with them. For instance, google and read the thread “Chemistry - terrible profession that ruined my life” (at chemicalforums.com). Some people, including me (30 years as a bachelor’s degree chemist) have had more upbeat experiences than the original poster (OP), but also some people have been disappointed with the work they can get with a bachelor’s or any other level degree in chemistry. There are some jobs, but it is not a “hot” field like computer science (which might be the minor you’re looking for).
