You’re in 10th grade. No one can chance you. You’re on the right path. GL on the SATs.

Hi,

Getting to this a bit late, but I want to echo what others say. A rating of 1910 is a decent score, but it’s not clear you even will crack the top 100 nationwide for graduating seniors. So it’s not a hook.

If you are in 10th grade as T26E4 states, you still have a couple of years to raise your score. It becomes worth mentioning after you achieve a rating of 2000 (Expert), and notable after reaching 2200.

Congrats on earning $75/hour with chess. People who are IMs (2500+) in my state are charging less.

I think you’re on a great track but those schools will be reaches for you…and everybody else who applies. Start researching other schools as well. I’d guess 2200 would get some real attention.

Back in the day (way back in the day), I was top 10 junior hs, top 20 high school in the country…lost first place in a big hs tournament on tie break to john fedorowicz. Two schools contacted me about playing on their chess team, one was an ivy, but at that point my interest in chess was starting to wane and the prospect of 4-6 hours per day of study/play wasn’t all too appealing.

I didn’t play at all in college but on a lark entered my university tournament junior year and won. I entered the next year and before I played my first game the guys in the chess club were all over me to play for the school team. I thought about it a little but I was so busy socially and academically, I couldn’t see putting in the time.

where am I going with this? Each person has to decide to follow their passion but when I look back on high school, I feel like my time playing and studying chess could have been better spent. And the time away from the board in college allowed me to develop socially, make a huge number of friends, discover new interests and made me the person I am today.

A rating of 1910 is, unfortunately, just that of a good club member.
You need 2200+ for your Chess EC to really start helping.
