I think a national title could be a hook. You look very competitive for all the Ivys, except HYP are still a toss-up.

I think a national title is absolutely great. Your stats definitely qualify you for any college.

Ditto to all of the above. Just keep on doing what you're doing this year.

Dong
just give up. you're never going to get into college.

Hello Dongminate-
I don't usually visit this forum, and was so surprised to see "chess hook"!! Notice my screen name and you will see why I am responding :)

Your chess awards are outstanding- and having state and national recognition is important for Ivies! Your stats are in line with Ivies, too!

My son has been involved with chess for many years, and his EC's demonstrates his "depth" and "passion" since elementary school.

He has volunteered at a 8 week summer chess program at our local library for years , and for the last two years has been a teacher and organizer of his Elementary school's chess club.

He traveled to Ft Dix as a 10 year old and played chess with the Kosovo refugees living there at the time, which was a very unique experience.

Hopefully, these activities demonstrated he has "people skills"- in addition, to his passion for chess.

IMHO, it would be very wise to overcome the Stereotype of the typical chess kid- shy and introverted, geeky- and show you get along well with people. Clearly articulate how you will contribute to campus life.

Obviously, the Ivies have chess teams, and it would be in your interest to investigate those teams, and know something about them.

There are 1,000s of soccer playing kids, but not so many chess kids at your level with those stats.

IMHO, this is a very distinct hook!!!

You're near perfection. I'll go far enough to say that you'll be accepted anywhere you apply.

You definitely attracted my attention with your title. I used to play chess competively, and like the posters above me, agree that your national awards will definitely help you.

Btw, if you don't mind sharing, what's your uscf rating?

gxing is you Matt?

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! My USCF is 2089. I'm still striving for a National Master title. It's a tough nut to crack.

Wow!! Impressive USCF....you are probably well aware of the two colleges who award chess scholarships....Univ of Maryland- and Texas!

I know the author of "The Chess Artist" and the book is about my son's chess teacher, a National Master.........FYI :)

i would think youre in almost anywhere

and tahts awesome about the chess thing...my dad's uncle was an IM from israel. i love chess

hey... im a soph and am rated 2050...took a long time to get there

I can safely say i am an "expert" YAY!!!

still, my first semester grades kinda sucked (3 B's, all ~89.4% grrrr...)

Actually, I won the UTDallas 4 year full scholarship at a recent tournament. Congrats Indian! Getting above 2000 is tough. Wow IM....only in my dreams.

You can probably apply to any school and get in...

I'll go out on a limb and say you're in anywhere. Your stats are so good that they make me think you're trolling, and if thats the case I feel sorry for you. If it's not the case I feel really, really jealous of you :)

Ditto to the above comment.

haha Madd Stressed... trust me when I say this kid is not trolling!

Awwww... jk man congrats!!

dude, dong, u know what scares me?

Those little kids like Curiano(sp?) that are already at like 2300+

THE KID'S LIKE 11 YEARS OLD!!!!!???

A lot of my friends are over 2100...i dont know how they do it...
