:)

Lol cuz it's an Ivy-Plus school? Or because we all get distracted and talk about sex?

that is absolutely awesome. and this proves u of c's awesome.

I think robertsont06 is referring to the latter. ;)

And you know the U. of C. has its obsessions with discussions on sexual topics, right? "Where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA. . ." And Esquared is a prime example.

This is my fault, isn't it? ... I need coffee.

it's okay. you were just explaining it to me. and coffee's good anytime.

Because its a ivy plus school- what else could I be talking about?

;)

sadly, the rest of the world has only seen this one (write it out):
the integral of e to the x is equal to f of u to the n.
S (e^x) = f(u^n)

but, of course, only the UChic kids come up with the other one.
my latest favorite t-shirt...

"The U of C: If it were easy, it'd be your mom"

what a nerdy and unfunny shirt

sorry trump... i laughed though

Chicago's reputation is quite amazing in England, or London at least. Moreso than half the Ivy League schools. Its reputation in Australia isn't quite as strong, but most elite/educated Australians who have heard of Cornell should have heard of Chicago (Brown, Penn and Dartmouth are rarer).

I'd say that here in brazil schools with a high reputation are Harvard, Wharton (people have no clue its part of Upenn), and Chicago.

Honestly, here in Ohio, hardly anyone really "understands" what I say when I say I'll be attending the university of chicago in the fall. Then again, a lot of them don't know Upenn, Georgetown, JH, or Carnegie Mellon either.

(8 weeks, 4 days and counting)

I don't know how to break this to everyone, but unless it is USC, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame etc. most everyday folk haven't heard of most of the universities discussed here. Most have heard of Harvard, but think it is where rich people send their kids, and the Ivy League is just a very weak athletic conference. And LAC's, few have a clue they even exist, and most don't know the difference between a university and a college. So I wouldn't be too concerned about who has heard of what. If that is a main concern, then Notre Dame should be the #1 choice.

Hey Idad,

Would you agree that major employers have a much different outlook than the public? If so, where would you rank UofChicago amongst other universities and colleges?

Let me put it this way. Recently I was meeting with a partner of a multibillion dollar hedge fund who was a valedictorian at Stanford and a has a Ph.D. from Oxford who told me his only regret was that he never attended the University of Chicago.

wowwww,

that's one hell of a compliment

Wow!!! what a strong statement. I won't have that regret, though.

i am going to eat lunch soon with a billionaire guy who founded what is now brazil's premier economics school... he went here for college, but did all his graduate work at Chicago, and made sure he sent his daughter there for college. I mean, i think that for people who know it, it is very, very respected. I just had a conversation with a friend of mine who currently attends stanford, and he told me that a professor of his who had previously taught at stanford said that he should've gone to Chicago... and it was a compliment!!! You see, my friend is very much the academic type and so on.... I mean, reputation wise, i am content. True, it is unfortunate that the average joe on the street probably doesn't recognize the impact the school has, but then again the average person won't be hiring you. Also, I think that it is important for all of us heading there next year to understand that there is a difference between attending the University of Chicago and graduating from the University of Chicago. It is undoubtedly a very selective school, unites kids with a lot of academic talent, yet it is more known for the difficulty in graduating rather than being admitted. So, for must of us, a lot of work still lies ahead before we start claiming all this glory of being Chicago boys/girls.
