I was wondering, how much emphasis does Chicago place on GC recs compared to, say, teacher recs? I really don't know my GC that well, and while she knows I am a good student and all, I haven't talked to her that much. A couple of teachers on the other hand I know fairly well, and I'm certain I can get good/great recs out of them.

apparently not much because i got in

I'd say as long as your teacher recs are OK, you'll be fine. They know guidance counselors aren't the best judges of you because they simply havn't seen you in action as much as the teachers have Plus, this is a teacher you PICKED to write your reccomendation, so it's going to be a good reccomendation.

i was in the same position as you and i got in. my gc rec probably said something like 'this kid is a good kid and takes hard classes and is always nice to talk to' because she doesnt interact with me very much and my teacher recs were a lot more in depth.

I've got the opposite- my counselor knows me realyl well because i work wtih him a lot, but my science teacher...eh. not so much. I think they jsut want a complete picture of hte person, so it doesnt really matter who knows you well, as long as someone does
