My Chicago extended essay was only 324 words, which I am starting to realize is way too short. I did have a pretty unique idea for the extended essay, and had a 618 word why essay. Does this seriously jeopardize my chances of admission?

If you had not left any words you wanted to say in your essay it should be fine.

If you can express yourself perfectly in 324 words that will be even better.

Last thought I believe you can submit your revised essay via UChicago account if you did miss something important due to misconception of a shorter limit.

The Gettysburg Address was 272 words.

My favorite college essay, a number of years ago when my youngest was applying to college, was Princeton’s essay. The prompt was “what one word would you use to describe yourself?” That was it. No “and why?” Just use one word. It lead to some amazing dinner discussions until the one word was selected. Sadly, I forget what was picked. So my advice is that if you nailed your essay by using fewer words, good for you, live with it.

I think you will make some application reader very happy to read a short, concise essay!
