Chicago or Boston?

Hey everybody, I just started my college search and I'm already interested in some schools like Boston U, SUNY Binghamton, Pitt, Indiana, Wisconsin, U Richmond, Northeastern, UIUC, etc.

Basically, I want to major in accounting or finance - still figuring it out (I'm a junior right now) but definitely something business related. I'm really interested in Chicago and Boston right now in terms of cities, and so far I've found a lot of colleges I like in Boston but not many in Chicago. (I cannot get into U chicago haha)

So I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions for business schools to look at in the Chicago or Boston area? Also if you have any input on the cities themselves because I've been to Boston and love it but I've never actually been to Chicago, although my mom travels there a lot for work and really likes the city.

My stats are:
3.7 GPA UW -- 5 APs
1980 SAT (660 M 660 CR 660 W)
~31-32 ACT, getting scores back in 2 weeks, I expect at least a 30, hopefully a 31-32
numerous ECs in employment, sports, clubs, volunteering, etc.

Any suggestions or input will be helpful so thanks in advance!

Boston College has a good undergrad bus. school…
Perhaps Tufts Business would do…

In Chicago, I’d look at DePaul and Illinois Institute of Technology for business programs. There are a number of others, but those two are the most highly regarded.

Ok thanks wavylays and annasdad!

Babson and Bentley are two strong private schools in the Boston area that focus on business. Unlike BC or Tufts (which doesn’t offer undergrad business anyway), you have a good chance of getting in with your numbers.

Boston is the quintessential college city. The place seems to be built for college students. Conversely, I think Chicago may be the best big city in the country to live and work. That said, where you choose to go to school has some impact on finding a job at graduation. Alumni networks are strongest close to the home base.

Schools to consider:

Boston - BC (reachy), BU (safety), Northeastern (match), Babson, Bentley and Brandeis are not in the city proper so I don’t know if that has an impact on your decision.

Chicago - Depaul (match), Loyola, (safety)

BU is not a safety for the OP. If someone’s scores are below the school’s reported median, that school isn’t a safety.

Thanks for all the input everybody! But Hanna, what are the scores for BU? From my research, I am at/around the 75th percentile for SAT

But I do agree it’s not a safety, i had considered it a target school

If you’re applying to the business school, you need stats for the business school, not the whole university.

[Class of 2016 Admitted Student Profile » School of Management | Boston University](http://management.bu.edu/undergraduate-program/admissions/class-profile/)

Oh thanks I didn’t see that information before. What do you think about my SAT? I am considering retaking it, because I did really bad on the math and writing sections, I can usually get around 700s in practice tests. I might not though if I do well enough on the ACT, do you think a 30-31 will be good enough to submit?

Might look at Holy Cross-1 hour from Boston. HC has accounting and economics majors and Holy Cross grads do very well on salary rankings. Agree about Babson.

BU or Northeastern do not compare to Wisconsin - if you get into Madison go there. Have you considered UIUC? You should it’s a 2.5 hour (and cheap) train ride to Chicago. I would even consider UIC and Depaul - UIC is highly underrated IMO - Outside of Tufts and Boston College I do not think BU/Northeaster would offer any more academically than UIC, UIUC or DePaul. Of course there’s Harvard ;-)

Haha thanks but wow I didn’t know Wisconsin was that good, do you think I have what it takes for their business school? Also I have started looking at UIUC a little but I’ll check it out more now thanks!

If you fought in the revolutionary war or something lol, then you might could get into MIT/Harvard with your SAT!

Lololololololol thanks for the reassuring advice wavylay

UIUC is strong in business. I would consider Indiana as well since that is your interest.
