Can any chicago unified veterans comment on schools that commonly allow walk-ins? What would be your best advice for obtaining a walkin audition? Thanks! Good luck to everyone!!
Ball State did last year. Also Wisconsin Stevens Point did last year.
Western Michigan will be doing walk-ins and Viterbo normally has walk-in slots available. Both are great programs. Here is a list of programs with walk-ins that I compiled last year (not a complete list):
UAB
Viterbo
Utah
Western Michigan
Ball State
Cornish
Drake
LIPA
Royal Welsh Academy
Ohio Northern
Oklahoma (Acting)
SCAD
CAP21/Molloy
NYCDA
Long Island U.
Northern Colorado
Watch for when their tables are open for registration, get there early and sign up. Check the lobbies on each floor of the Palmer House early each morning for posters, flyers and walk the halls to find the tables, especially on Monday and Tuesday morning. Check back mid-morning and after lunch, sometimes schools put up posters later in the day.

Would any of the schools above be having walk-ins for the acting/theatre majors as well (not MT)?
Yes, some of these programs have walk-in slots for acting major auditions in Chicago.
Coastal Carolina did, also.
Which schools are these?
UAB
LIPA
SCAD
NYCDA
UAB = University of Alabama at Birmingham
LIPA = Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts
SCAD = Savannah College of Art and Design
NYCDA = New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts
These schools tend to go by their initials.
Do we know which walk in schools don’t require you to pay up front to walk in for the audition. I’ve heard some people have to have a checkbook with them to write out an audition fee to be able to do walk ins.
@ParachuteBoy -Yes, most of the schools that my D did walk-ins for recently required $. Not all, but good idea to have your checkbook!
That most pose an extra challenge for those of us auditioning without their parents following them around the hotel.
I suppose you can carry cash- the ones D auditioned for were between $25- $40, though I think one of the schools we saw was much higher.
D walked in for Cornish, and loved the program. Didn’t pay anything up front, but came home and submitted application.
D did 3 walk-ins (UAB, Coastal Carolina, and UW Stevens-Point), and none required a payment at the audition. She did have cash in case they required it, though.
There was no fee for SCAD either. U Miami required $75, I think.
For last year at Chicago Unifieds, we were advised to walk around as early as possible to sign up for a walk-ins. The available spots are limited and some get filled up quickly. As I recall, you sign up for a timeslot and if there is a fee, you would pay it when you return for the audition. D did two walk-in auditions and neither of them made her pay until after the audition, when they determined they were interested in her and told her to complete an application.
Webster required you to not only pay the audition fee but submit the common app (and pay for that) before auditioning at NY Unifieds.
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has been taking walk-ins for years. They are not at the PHH. Here’s their Chicago schedule. Please note that they are at 2 different locations.
