Chicago vs. Northwestern

I’ve heard that UChicago and NU are really identical, is that true?

I was someone who was admitted to UChicago and Northwestern about 6 years ago…and I chose Northwestern. I went to admitted student days and Chicago unquestionably had a more pretentious “intellectual” vibe - hard to explain…but I got the vibe that students were arrogant about their purported intellectualism in a way that was a huge turn off. Northwestern on the other hand, was full of well-rounded and intelligent students.

Things have changed at Chicago for sure…what high school students seem to forget is that Chicago had a 40% acceptance rate about 6-7 years ago…and now you see high school kids on these boards that proclaim with baseless confidence that Chicago’s prestige is at the level of the upper ivies in the mainstream…i work in ibanking at a top 3 bulge bracket bank and I can tell you that this just isn’t the case. Chicago is a wonderful school and anyone would be lucky to attend but it is not at the level of harvard, stanford, etc. It takes decades to change perceptions (not just a few years with a 'higher ranking."

I got into both schools through ED (it’s a long story) and I chose NU over UChicago just cause I want to have fun college

This is a rather old thread so I’m not sure why it was brought back up, but I’ll reiterate what’s been said millions of times. UChicago is mostly intellectual kids, bad sports, pretty bad neighborhood, slightly better reputation with most things, not as fun, etc. Northwestern is slightly less prestigious, better sports, more fun, more of a party scene, much nicer neighborhood.

Leny795, they are VERY different, and I can’t think of many people who would fit in at both schools. There are intellectual kids who don’t party much at NU, and I’m sure there’s fun kids at UChicago, but there’s a way higher percentage of each at their schools.
