Chicago vs. Yale

Because of the rapidly approaching deadlines, I only have time to apply to one more college- Yale or the University of Chicago. The two are very similar in academic rigor, and both have great biology (ecology/evolution) and English departments. Both schools are about the same size and distance from home. I simply CAN NOT decide! Any advice?

Yale and UChicago happen to be my top 2 choices. Practically speaking? I would go with Chicago, just because it's so much easier to get in! I know that this is pessimistic advice, but unless you think that you have a great shot at Yale, don't waste your time--put your effort into the Chicago app. It's a great school and I'm sure you'd be happy there. Heck, I might even be there with you.

...This might be a silly question, but...Are you absolutely sure that you can't put the pressure on yourself and squeeze out both apps?

UChicago has really cool gothic-style architecture. Random, yes I know.

I think Chicago is a really fantastic school, a truly intellectual place (and, by the way, I am also interested in pursuing English). But, for a full disclosure: I was going between Yale and Chicago for Early Action, but in the end I opted for Yale. As a teacher pointed out to me, a school with an endowment like Yale has resources that Chicago just doesn't have, both in its facilities (and the money to renovate) and in its academic resources. Much of my decision came down to the vibes I got from the schools when I visited; on a whole, the Yale students seemed more engaged, more outgoing and down-to-earth than the Chicago students, and I also liked Yale's campus much more than Chicago's. If these answers sound kind of murky, it's because I really do love both schools! But I would suggest comparing key academic programs: Chicago has a much more structured core curriculum than Yale does, for example.

Athlon, doesn't Yale have really cool gothic architecture too :)?

Frankly, (and I'm speaking as a Yale EA person here) I'd go with Chicago. I'm not applying there only because I need preprofessional classical music training that Chicago doesn't allow for, but Yale does. I prefer Chicago in many regards: intellectual atmosphere, the wonderfully energetic student body, location... It's a bit quirkier than Yale, too, though I do like Yale's quirks. Chicago is amazing.

I love chicago! <3

From a Yale EA hopeful architecture major, Yale's cool gothic architecture is much better... :)

Chicago v. Northwestern doesn't hold a candle to The Game. Go to HY for intangibles like The Game. Seriously, there is a je ne sais quois about the Yale community that Chicago, great school that it is, just can't match. In my admittedly biased opinion, there is more communal engagement at Yale.

I love Chicago, too. I'm applying there RD. I think that I like Yale better though, because of the little things like Master's Teas and the Colleges. Also, I'm a bit lazy, and Chicago's quarters are supposedly grueling. Not that I really mind that(I'm still applying there) but I prefer the semester system.

The area around Chicago is better than the area around Yale, though, with cultural attractions and all that. And Chicago is close, and cheaper and (IMHO) nicer than New York. And Doc Films rocks.

But I still like Yale best. :)
