For EA applicants in particular, is Chicago your definite first choice? I think many people are applying EA to Chicago as their 2nd choice backups in case they are not admitted to their ED schools.

For me, Chicago is my definite first choice, and it's the choosiest school I'm applying to. I'd love to hear your stances on this.

hm.. i applied ED to penn too.. but, seriously, i'd jus be as happy getting into Chicago. in terms of programme etc.. chicago is more ideal, as im taking economics. i have a couple of gd frens there (wch is ALOT, cos im an intel), and i really love the music scene. the only difference is tt my bf's in Penn.. so, i decided to apply ED there

NU is my first choice. I applied to U of Chicago because it's a good school located in Chicago and has non-binding EA. I won't be too crushed if I don't get in, but it certainly would be nice.

uhhh: I find it interesting you applied to both NU & UChicago. I have been involved with both schools and found their campus cultures to be quite different. Does being in Chicago trump the differences, or do you perceive the schools to be more similar than different?

Rice is my #1 choice, but it's so far from home and I haven't visited it yet. I'm not applying ED anywhere. I don't think I'll get into Rice, but I figure that I have a decent chance at UChi and would be very happy there.

Haha, I realize that U of Chicago and Northwestern are VERY different. Northwestern and its football team and lots of school spirit vs. U of Chicago with its intellectual sparks and division III sports. but I really like Chicago's gothic architecture and location.. I know that's a pretty pitiful reason, but I do like the school.

Oh, and my not so spectacular stats: 4.0w/2200/34/decent EC's with some state level music, sports, and Latin awards.

I don't really have a clear-cut first choice...I applied ED to Penn and EA to Chicago. If I get into Chicago (and not Penn), I'm going to withdraw most of my other apps except for Dartmouth, Princeton and Stanford.

Chicago has one of the best economics programs in the world, if not the best. However, I like the atmosphere at NU a lot more and NU's economics program is also excellent (and likely to be slightly easier to get in since Chicago's is so good), which is why I chose NU over Chicago. I've been to both colleges in person.

I'd have to say the difference in the environment put NU over UChi for me (and not just literally...two beaches and a lagoon on campus?!). I felt really comfortable at NU...

i adore the school and applied ea had they had ed i would have done it... i confess i did appy to penn ed b/c i am almost 100% i will deffered (if not outright rejected) and released from the binding contract... then if I dont get into Chicago maybe penn will appreicate that i liked them enough to apply ed? Anyhow I will be heartbroken, i repeat heartbroken, if I do not get in... ahhhh, I've been talking nonstop about UofC since junior year...... soooo nervous right now...
