Child psych at Tufts

My question is whether Tufts would be a good fit for my daughter. She is seeking a school with a strong child psych research program and arts scene, that is not dominated by frats, jocks, hipsters, or obviously wealthy students. She is Chinese, and is most comfortable in a racially and economically diverse environment with a traditional educational approach (i.e., grades).

She takes the SAT in march but is probably in the top 2 % of her heterogeneous NYC public school. She is taking four AP classes, and is prepping for the Intel Science Talent Search. She won third place in her HS science fair (out of several hundred) and her project was accepted to the NYC science fair. She also competed in EuroChallenge. ECs will include: NHS, three years as a discovery guide at the Brooklyn zoo, three summers as a pre-school teacher’s aide, performing for three years in the youth wing of a nonprofit theater company, participating in an anti-sex trafficking school club, co-producing a short film about perceptions of Asian identity (shown at DC and NYC festivals), and mentoring younger adopted girls from China.

I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Sounds like Tufts might be just what she’s looking for. She could study Child Development (see http://ase.tufts.edu/epcd/documents/article11.5.07.pdf</a>) and/or Psych.
On the non-academic side, Tufts is extremely diverse, so sure, there are some “obviously wealthy students” (by some standards, that would be anyone who can afford to pay full tuition and fees these days), but frats are de minimis, it’s got some fine athletes, but it’s not a jocky school, etc. It’s just a really nice place with people of all interests and from various socioeconomic strata and geographic origins.
Bottom line: there’s no substitute for a visit (preferably overnight, with one or two classes and some socializing thrown in), but I bet she’d love it.
