Child's education but parent's crushing loans, NYT

<p>So don’t take out loans for your child’s education, end of story.</p>

<p>^^^^ Yeah, college loans (whether by the student or parents) get most of the publicity but one should never take on any debt that doesn’t have a reasonable expectation of being paid back.</p>

<p>Federal bailout on the way. No sleep between now and then, however.</p>

<p>Her daughter is 35 so she took out the student loans around 1996-2000. The mother divorced and lost her corporate job. It looks like she’s taken a number of financial hits over the years.</p>

<p>It appears that the decision to get an education was a good one for the daughter as she apparently has a good job going by how nice a place she has.</p>

<p>I have minimal loans for my kids’ educations – around $20k fit the two together. I would definitely do it again.</p>
