China-->Toronto-->Yale? is there hope?chance me pleas~!!!!!!!

i gotta say, i usually don't spend that much time on CC

but thanks for all the advice, and my questoin about gap year will be my last one on this thread

i've gained a lot of knowledge from you, and here's my summary : (and i'm not surprised by it)

1.work hard in school
2.the lack of science would not really hurt me (sorry to ask again, what if i want to do a math major? do i need more science?)
3. do things b/c you love them
4. dont get all paranoid about college app XD

Now you just have to start putting those four points you listed into ACTION. Oh yeah, don't get caught up on exotic ideas like "international exchange/gap year." All you need to do now is FOCUS, and start tackling areas that need further improvement.

yep
gotcha jimmy ! =)

thanks!

btw jimmy
sorry to ask again, you are from Ontario , right?

well you know how in Ontario, you can choose to take an extra year in high school, the former OAC?

I want to take the OAC year, but not sure what effects that will have on me?

During my OAC year i can take more english course, more science coureses , and i also hope that my gr 12 experience can start to weigh more on my application.

What do you think about it? I want to take this extra year in HS mainly to learn more and to make my gr 12 experience weigh more... =)

Read my post in the other thread.

Jimmy is from Vancouver. I'm dead serious - get off CC. You're wasting a lot of time seeking justification from us on these boards, and trying to find answers you can already probably figure out on your own.

Take tonysu's advice - be above the influence and refuse to let this frenzy get to your head.

Come back next April with some good news. You can weight decisions for yourself, and you have a pretty good guage of where you're heading. You don't need us to tell you that :-).

I support you. I have a similar experience as you do.. went to T.O during 10th grade. then applied to U.S college. then I just finished my first year in Umich and I am going off to Upenn Wharton. Its a long road. You had far better stats than me. Put effort in your application. i believe u ll get some fruitful results back!

thank you so much flora =)

btw do you happen to be part of a group called TOProspects? =)

i helped out during the recruiting process and your name really sounded familiar =)

yes lol... Are you going to AY Jackson?

Ya.. Small world :/

flora
check ur pm plz XD

lubinli and tonysu, you guys are in that facebook group "The Toronto Connections" right? I was surfing facebook and happened to come across that.

Anyway, a brief intro about myself. I'm also from Toronto, class of 2007, Chinese, but I've lived here all my life. I applied to Wharton (ED), Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, Chicago and Ross@Michigan (that was my order of preference when I applied). I got into Princeton, Chicago and Michigan and was waitlisted at Stanford and Columbia.

I can understand your wanting to get into a school EA (who doesn't), as it would certainly take some pressure off your senior year, but it would be a shame if you did get into Yale EA and ended up not submitting applications to other top schools to compare your options at financial aid packages. Furthermore, the competition at Yale and Stanford EA next year is going to be ridiculous as all the top applicants that used to apply to Harvard and Princeton are probably going to split between Yale and Stanford EA. I'm pretty sure if you apply early to either (since you don't have a hook, or anything exceptional), you will be deferred. Being deferred is not fun (the acceptance rate for deferrals is lower than the RD rate most of the time).

If you're looking for that security of an EA acceptance, UChicago is a great option for you. It's arguably tops in the US for economics (your intended major) and has a comparatively high acceptance rate. I'd say your chances of being accepted EA there are excellent and having UChicago to fall back on is nothing to laugh at.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet on this thread, but for economics and international relations Columbia and Georgetown are two other great options.

Good luck!

^^^ where did you choose to go?

Princeton...I'm planning to major in econ so it was nice to have to choose between Princeton and UChicago =)

its nice!!! econ is a great choice!
