Chinese college discussion!

Hey everyone
I recently became aware of the numerous students from China who seek to study here in America. Being born and raised in China, I have personal experience and expertise that I would gladly share with anyone who is wondering how to get into American colleges from China.

glad to help too

which city? and.............where are you now? I mean , which college??

well, what are the differeces (the biggest ones) between china and us? Thanks alot

what thing do americans least like about china and chinese people?

It's hard to cover all major differences within a few lines; even within China or US there are too many differences between difference provinces or states to be summarised. So the best way is to see yourself. Regarding admission, I think American does not like acts of dishonesty, especially those intended to gain some unfair advangtages.

hey, im from singapore...curious to know how difficult is it to gain admission into chinese universities like peking and tsinghua under international students...

Hermann, my suggestion is that if you want to enjoy diverse campus activities and scienctific research, you may give the chance to universities in other countries.

lol...my plan is perhaps to enter Peking Uni if it is even remotely possible through the international students scheme then enter maybe some US grad sch in the future...

compared with Chinese students, international students are a little easier to get into Peking University. Anyway,Peking and Tsinhua are really good schools!Hope you good luck!

lol...im basing my hopes on the fact that there isnt much competition in the international students section...

any advice for high school senior who will study in US from Chinese mainland high schools?

^
Take TOEFL, SAT I and SAT II, you will definitely need it.
You should also take APs. Since the chinese system of scoring is not really considered by the US, since its in erm, Chinese?
But taking the APs shouldnt be hard. When the chinese syllabus for Math and sciences in Junior high already covered all the topics. You should think twice about taking AP history though.

qiuskywalker,

I am Asian but I was born in the U.S. I have moved to Shanghai about a year ago because my dad got relocated to Shanghai.

I can't speak for others but for me, the few things that I don't like about China: (before the criticism, I do have to point out that in general I like Shanghai, it's a very exciting city):

The air quality

People do not line-up, ever.

There are people spitting everywhere. I cannot walk for 1000 feet without seeing someone spit on the floor.

Chinese people are very loud sometimes.

^ ER, does this even got to do with the thread?

Hey. I'm from China too! I have been enrolled two universities in US so far. Since u are now living in Texas, how come u have such a blurry conception about applying for college? Anyway, glad to help u.
