Chinese National Test = Intense

"You're an idiot. If it's a joke, it's not funny"

-You're right... Making fried rice is a much better test. yumm.

egypt is third world, but that has never happened here.

the same thing happens in Taiwan. But not as severe as it is in China

the exams are pretty severe in vietnam too. These past few weeks, most of the headlines are about entrance examination..

Oy./***************/

Actually, not only Gaokao itself but also the process of waiting for the result can be torture, too. I've just taken it. Trust me, it's more than just cruel. Like piling thousands of books on one string. You have to handle it extremely well or the string breaks and you get hurt too.

IITJEE, CAT ... hasn't anyone heard of these exams ?

It's just too bad that neither of the foods you mentioned are really "Chinese." Both foods are Americanized.

And the joke is not funny. At all.

Americanized Chinese food is funny. There's a whole wiki article on it: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-styled_Chinese_food%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-styled_Chinese_food</a> And some people say they love Chinese food but they only talk about sesame chicken and "chow mein" and "chop suey".

Their exam is based on subjects they will be pursuing in college? I wish it were like that here, I would have done so much better than on the stupid sat.

I think the test is the fairest way even though it is tough. Unlike here, your acceptance is greatly depended on the mood of the admission officer.

Both of my parents took it and they were fine. Scored well, went to college. That was in the late 70s, early 80s.

Also Japan is NOT a third world country...unlike someone stated before.

I visited Beijing in a summer and one day, I saw a study guide for their chemistry exam. Questions weren't straight forward like AP; it also covered what looked like first-semester orgo.

Anyone know any translated versions or tests of equal caliber in English?

Jakor,

<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/6589301.stm%5B/url%5D">http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/6589301.stm</a></p>

It's only a sample translated question, and the comparison is from the United Kingdom, but it should give you a good idea.

Thanks fabrizio. About how long is the Gaokao?

^After looking at the question for seven minutes, I ended up with

i) I'm not sure why students were asked this: if the figure is a prism, then doesn't the result follow, considering the given info?
ii) 90 degrees
iii) um. Still trying to wrap my mind 'round this one. Oh man, taking Stats as a math class for a year has really killed my problem-solving abilities.

That really looks like a high school entrance test for me.

Here's some more from the test site:

And the index of subjects:

Hey, are you a fing idiot? Third World=countries not affiliated with the Communist or Western bloc during the Cold War (India, most of Africa, etc.). China and the USSR made up most of the former, dumbass.
