Liu Yiting was once an exchange student who lived in the senator's house. The senator had worked on sino-American relationship unofficially. He had recommended two students to Columbia and Wellesley before he met Liu Yiting. Anyway, Liu Yiting was the only applicant from China that year, I think that's why she can got into H easily.

liu yiting's story is not worth arguing about, it's been there 6 years.
just a note on graduate business school, most of american graduate business school, especially prestigeous ones, harvard, stanford, wharton, kellog...... all recommend to their candidates to have at least three or four years work experience, you can also check the average age of graduate business students, they are usually 28 years or older. so there's nothing uncommon about liu that she didn't start graduate business school right after undergrad.
i'm sure most of you here can succeed at harvard if you were given a chance like liu's. but each of us has a different life, as long as we walk on our own path, there's nothing worth regret. there are tons of successful individuals who went to unkown schools, or even had no college education.
A passion for what you like is not something top schools can really offer........ do not get anxious, 条条大路通罗马

my mom used to tell me "all roads lead to beijing!" hahaha i think she was chinese biased. i actually dont think its "hard" to get into harvard, its just... especially people IN china school rite now, they dont know the ways, i mean, good grades wont take u straight to harvard, its really about what makes u unique, and if a senator recommends someone, then they have a VERY high chance of getting in. most of the applicants are very "qualified", they have 4.0, 1600SAT, and such, but are still rejected.

haha i feel so weird saying this now as i wanted to go to HYPS so bad, well i didnt actually apply to MIT, but i can probably get a double degree at MIT from wellesley... sometimes i feel like good school is so important, and i should work very hard, but other times i feel like i should just take a break, not overwork myself, and let fate play its game. maybe if i was more consistant.. but now i wonder, would i really have gotten a better education at harvard? is it actually luck that i didnt get in because then i would've gone to harvard but wellesley would've offered me much more? but why do i still want my cousin to go to harvard?

being chinese, its hard to part with the name, the prestige, its like instilled in u. i try but its hard to escape, but i know ill enjoy college in wellesley

I know why do you want your cousin to go to Harvard.Just like a friend of mine, he cannot go to Harvard anyway, therefore he wishes every single one who might have a chance to apply and to get in. If there is something you cannot do, you definitely hope someone else could done this for you, is that simple?
I don't know why I will feel regret to attend a school so close to my dreamed ones. You should know how close is the distance between Wellesley and MIT or Harvard. In this case, I'd rather stay in California.Sorry, no offence, this is just an example.

xo... how did you post 356 posts in one month?
don't stress yourself, forget harvard. 哈佛毒药

Talking about Harvard is cliche nowadays. This year in Shanghai alone, there are four Harvard acceptances already.

Mainland students are exempt from taking SAT for many colleges, anyway.
Chinese students don't need to have those grand prizes for them to win admissions to top colleges. The only thing you should do is to make yourself funny in the ao's eyes.

does anybody know anything about United World Colleges? i did a quick google and i reeeeallly wish i would've know about it sophmore year and went to the one in hongkong.

just out of curiousity, are most of u on this board from china or chinese living in the states? i miss china so much

United World Colleges? Are you talking about international schools?

is it an international school? i thought its a special school u apply to at end of sophmore year and do IB there

There's different international schools and most offer IBs and APs. My school in Shanghai did.

xokandykyssesox :im a chinese studying in singapore, without my parents with me...sigh,i also miss china a lot. i think usually it's only after you leave your home country that you really get to appreciate it. i miss the FOOD ESPECIALLY!

dating in america is a lot more open... but in china i think its a lot more "cuter" or "sweeter"... like in cartoons... haha or maybe its just me

i totally agree! it's really, really sweet in china, dating i mean, just a lot of holding hands and gazing at each other. very little sex involved. it's just so much more romantic...but sometimes quite naive as well.

"ignorance is a bliss"... so "naiveness is a bliss"?
