confusedaboutcollegegirl-
your accomplishments seem to be very impressive, but i was just reading your posts on the harvard/what are my chances boards, and your info (e.g. sat score) seems to be a bit...inconsistent.
Sorry, i don't mean to be rude or anything. but dishonesty is one trait i really can't stand, and i don't get the point of this. Sorry, maybe i'm just being over-suspicious. if so, i apologize in advance.

confusedaboutcollegegirl......I do think you're crazy...with all these credentials. Really, don't worry about anything and just enjoy your last year in high school if you don't want to go to Standford or Yale :)...anyway I'm kind of speechless now.

Hehe I just confirmed my ticket to go back to Beijing. I'll be leaving Houston on 7/17 and stay there for a month. I'm really excited coz I haven't been back for 2 yrs...and all my middle school friends will be finished with Gaokao by then!! Oh I'm craving for the food already! The best thing is, even if you go eat at restaurants twice a day for a whole month (including KFC and such), you won't gain weight. Actually, that's what I did 2 yrs ago and I lost about 5 pounds. I think it's because I was walking A LOT during that time, meeting friends and shopping...and unlike in Houston, I had to walk to bus stops or to metro stations, so it definitely helped me keep in shape! So no worries people :D

Hi there, I think most of you are asians. i want to know about where are you guys studying in. As i am thinking about go to CA. Which college can offer a beautiful and comfortable place for studying. I hope you guys can help!

Thanks

Claremont Mckenna, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Stanford, Pepperdine, UC (SB+SC+SD)

I applied to Stanford (offer) and Claremont Mckenna (waitlist), both are awesome and worth being researched into.

sweetbies:
so beijing is your hometown....
i am going to BJ at the end of July maybe we can meet up some time.....lol.....
i know how you feel....craving for food and shopping....i just want to indulge myself into restuarnts...even KFC in CHina..it tastes better to me

Hey AvonT you should go to Berkeley!

berkeley... basically any UCs i guess, stanford, caltech

Not all UCs are "beautiful and comfortable place for studying", UC Irvine, Riverside, Davis, Merced are all in not so spectacular locations. UC Berkeley and Los Angeles are not that wonderful either in terms of physical beauty... :D

ooh haha beautiful??? then i guess stanford is the most beautiful prestigous college in cali u can ask for... it probably has the largest campus of ANY school in america, with michigan state university running 2nd, but that's only cuz michigan state is a really good AGRICULTURAL school, and all the corn fields and stuff are counted as campus. i live here and there's miles and miles of crop fields, experiemental crop fields... i dunno.. just lots of green stuff... and lots of green houses too... but even THEN stanford has a bigger campus. its pretty too

Stanford can be quite boring I live 5 minutes away from campus because my mom use to work there. I may be biased because I prefer the city in general. Palm Drive is beautiful though! But I definitely prefer East Coast architecture. Plus if AvonT is thinking of transferring, Stanford will be really tough to get into.

haha... i guess you bring up a good point there fayetti...

i had a canadian friend whose been my bestfriend for so long, but she stayed in canada and i came to east lansing, MI for highschool. we ended up becoing totally difrerent people. east lansing is a beautiful city... its suburban, small, lushy green... sorta cold, but come on, michigan, wat can u ask for... beautfiul beautiful campus there is just SOO much green and the town is so organized... like all the buildings and stuff, so CLEAN, even though there's football and tons of beer bottles after the games, they magically disappare in 2 days. i look outside, not even a SINGLE GARBAGE! no plastic bags, or even GUM WRAPPERS on the ground... talk about clean! i like cities like this. i think this is beautiful. white buildings, blue skies, green rolling hills, tons of trees, sakura blossoms tossed in the wind... this is just picture perfect.

but she totally hates this place when she visits. she thinks its conformaty. i dont mind conformaty, as long as its beautiful. i dont care that everything in this city is so organized, like we have a huge chinese supermarket, and its not that expensive, and they sell all the stuff you would normall want so good selection, and best of all, its the CLEANEST chinese store i've EVER seen. all the ones in boston/new york/chi-town/toronto... do not compare. there's no fish, no shrimp smell... but we only have one chinese store, 2 little ones that dont really count, but main point is one main one that EVERYONE goes to. so basically, ALL my grocery at meijers, my clothe at the mall, and chinese stuff at that chinese store... done. not like other people who goes to like a billion stores every week from convinent stores to tiny supermarket to big samsclub/costcos to flee market to blah blah blah blah

there is a place in California that can try one's soul. Be awared "only if you want to try your soul", it is called Monte Vista Christian school in Watsonville(Santa Cruz county). If you want to build up your "soul endurance", then go to its "soul workout" in the summer only. But you won't have any academic experience there. The beginning might make one to throw up, but later as one comes out of there, one will have a strong spirit............ don't take my suggestion serious, if you are not interested

Mandy, I totally get what you said about KFC tasting better in China. Oh and if you'll be in Beijing after 7/18, we can meet up! Hehe I think it's going to be quite fun, seriously. And we can shop together!! :)

im going on june 7, to shanghai first, then transfer to xi'an... my mom's asking me right now how many days i want to stay in shanghai. how many, guys? should i shop there? but i dunno where/good shops... haha im going alone, so i dunno... i might be uncomfortable buying stuff without adults, but then agian, i can buy whatever i want, without my mom going that's too short

OMG i am going to be in Beijing after that...but..the thing is...i am still pending on going or not. it is for the post AFS-orientation thing. it is quite a waste of time for the returnees to go 'cuz we are becoming senior in high school the following year.. i want to travel but i hope i could go somewhere like Tibet .....(just can't get enough of the Lonely star..haha)

it would be so great if i could really meet u and do stuff together..won't it be so werid to be other places than the fattest city Dallas/Houston!?

xo.. so you're going alone alone? Aroung Shanghai alone the entire time? :( I can give you suggestions but tell me what kind of places you would like to go.

hey fellas!! if i wanna learn writing simple chinese characters by myslef, how do i start? whihc websites do u all reccommend??

I think most of us here have never tried the daring act of "self-study chinese online", so it's kind of hard to make any recommendations. I only think about http://www.iciba.net , which is a very good english-chinese dictionary online.
